Welcome to the month of May!!!
I am a Nigerian, not only because I was born and bred in Nigeria, but also because I have grown to be used to the Nigerian system of life. Since I have become aware of my environment till date, I have lost count on the numbers of strikes, show down, crisis, or whatever terminologies that are used (although they all mean almost the same thing). If it is not ASUU (Academic Staff Union of University) strike, it may be their Non-academic counterpart or their Polytechnic counterpart, labour union, and maybe in few years from now, some other unions/ organisations that are not yet formed will create their own show.
A few days ago and up to the time of this write up, the oil marketers in Nigeria are at it again. The marketers, under the auspices of Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, MOMAN, decried government’s inability to disburse the outstanding payments due its members for the import of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, under the Petroleum Subsidy Fund.
This article is not meant to blame or cast aspersions on anyone, but to reinstate how blessed we are as a nation because our problems are caused by ourselves, and hence can be solved by ourselves. All our problems such as religious, ethical, political, and economic crises are human-induced, whereas most nations of the earth are suffering from serious natural disaster such as earthquakes, tsunami, volcanic eruptions, landslide, cyclones, etc. (which are called an ‘Act of God’ because they are not caused by human beings). Even the annual flooding problem we suffer in some part of Nigeria cannot be called natural disaster; it’s our failure to create good drainage/ canal system for easy passage of flood water. The deep potholes which has become a nightmare on our roads are not natural, but a result of our attitude of neglect and poor maintenance culture.
Notwithstanding the above, I believe so much in a better Nigeria. I’m not a politician (and may never be one), but change is happening. Yes, the change we are clamouring for may not be instantaneous because Nigeria (sorry, Rome) was not built in a day, but we shall get there.
This is the more reason you need to be taking position and investing in the Nigerian real estate market. The people who make the most in real estate are those who see beautiful estates from the ‘farmland’ (unfantastic areas) of today, and they key in. The prestigious Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki of today were thick forest some years ago.
Invest today to avoid regret tomorrow!!!
