We welcome you to the beautiful month of September!!!

september

Like we pointed out in our last article, the days seem to be running faster than one can imagine. I can now understand better when they say that life is a race.

Yes, the journey of life can be likened to some track-and-field events (sprints, middle distance, long distance, hurdles, relays, etc.); how you run along the way determines your final result.

100m race

On Sunday, August 23, 2015 we heard an amazing news about the outcome of the 100-Meter IAAF World Championships 2015 in Beijing. The news reported:

Usain Bolt beat Justin Gatlin by one-hundredth of a second in the 100-metre IAAF World Championships 2015 in Beijing finishing in 9.79 seconds.

Do you get that? Less than a second made a huge difference between the person who became the world athletics champion and the runner up. The champion, Usain Bolt finished the race in 9.79seconds, while his runner up finished in 9.80seconds. Difference of 0.01second.

Few days later, specifically on Thursday, August 27, 2015, we got another overwhelming news that:

Usain Bolt defeated Justin Gatlin at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, winning his fourth consecutive 200-meter world title in 19.55seconds. Gatlin took the silver medal, as he was behind Bolt in 0.19seconds. He ran 19.74seconds.

The essence of this month’s article is not to report about the result of the above events, but to draw certain life lessons from them. For the purpose of brevity, we shall draw just 5 lessons. These are:

1) The value of time: What you think does not matter, usually become matters arising. Do what you need to do as soon as the need arise; do not procrastinate. Understand that judicious utilisation of time is the key to your desired goal, which is why they say ‘time is money’.

Balancing Time And Dollar

2) Be consistent: Don’t be too consumed or overwhelmed by your momentary victory. Your success must be continuous and predictable like that of Usain Bolt.

Persistent

3) Be Persistent: Never ever give up; it is not over until it is finally over; only those that endure to the end will be saved (and get the prize). This 3-seconds video below says it all (Click the image to play):

Never give up

4) Develop a ‘you-can-win-spirit’: Believe in yourself. You can never know what you are capable of doing until you try. You are your own limitation; only ‘you’ holds the key to your success. Be prepared to succeed; opportunity works with preparation. You can do it, yes, you can!

I can do this

5) Overcome FEAR: Fear has been defined as ‘false evidence appearing real’. Dare that thing you fear most; most times, they are mere illusions. Zig Ziglar once said that F-E-A-R has two meanings: ‘Forget Everything And Run, or ‘Face Everything And Rise.’ The choice is yours.
