“Good morning Bayo, did you hear about the plane crash that happened late last night at Lokoja?”
“Oh my God! Which plane crash is that, how did it happen?”
“It happened at about 11:45pm, the plane left Lagos at 11:15pm enroute Kaduna. 156 people were onboard including the pilots and the cabin crew, and everyone lost their life, no one survived”
“Are you serious? Where did you get the information from?”
“It’s breaking news on Channels TV, na confirmed information”
“Oh, so sad, let me check Channels TV online”
“Haaaa…. Haaaa…. Haaaaa…. April Fool!!!!!!!
“I don’t understand, what do you mean???
“Today is 1st of April, April Fool Day, I got you there”
“Umhhh!!! Are you normal? By the way, how old are you now?”
“Why do you ask? I will be 36 by June this year”
“It’s really a pity. Do you know that at your age, some people are Presidents of some country, and here you are playing April Fool. Who has done this to you?
“Please don’t abuse me o, you are pretending as if we don’t use to do April Fool for each other back in those days”
“Yes, I agreed, and like you rightly said, ‘Back in those days’, when we were still kids. And this is expected, because when we were kids, we spoke as kids, we understood as kids, we thought as kids; but now that we are adults, we have to put away childish things”
“You’re now making me look like a child. Somebody cannot play with you again? Everybody plays April Fool pranks on a day like this”
“But, does plane crash sound like a play to you? And you are also wrong, not everybody plays prank, only idle people and mediocre does. Do you think any serious minded and busy person will have time to cook a lie? As a matter of fact, why will any day be devoted to lying, falsehood, deception, deceit, or rumour?.”
“I know, and I agree with you, but that’s what we’ve grown to know and that’s how it’s gonna be; we can’t do anything about it”
“Says who, the fact that things have been done in certain ways or have been in existence doesn’t mean it will forever be like that, most especially when we know it’s bad. We must begin to unlearn certain bad values, and correct the wrongdoings; this change must begin with us”
“But seriously, you’re right o, if April 1st is devoted to spreading of lies, deceit and falsehood, which day is really devoted to truth, knowledge and wisdom”
“Of course, there’s no day in the year devoted for such, and that’s why the Holy Scripture says ‘Folly is set in great dignity’. Whereas, the pure truth is that wisdom is of utmost importance – it’s the principal thing. The Wise speaks and spread wisdom”
“Are you now saying indirectly that the Foolish spreads lies and falsehood such as April Fool?”
“Thou sayest so! You know, ‘For out of the abundant of the heart, the mouth speaks’. Words that come out of our mouth should be edifying and encouraging. We should not follow the Jones and ‘small-minded’ people to say or spread what is not right”
“I cannot, but agree with you. And I’ve observed that people’s condition in life is a function of their mental state”
“Exactly, for as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Also, Proverbs 1:32 says, ‘Inexperienced people die because they reject wisdom. Stupid people are destroyed by their own lack of concern (Good News Translation)”
“Hmmmm… this is very deep and insightful. Meaning, you gain experience by accepting wisdom, and foolish people are indecisive”
“Yes, but I didn’t say it, the Scripture does. As a matter of fact, there are so many verses devoted to Wisdom and Foolishness, and people’s value system is determined by which side of the divide they belong to, that is, show me an individual or a company, and I will tell you whether they operate with the ‘wisdom values’ or ‘foolishness values’.
“Hmmm!!! That is to say, the decisions we make in life will determine if one is wise or foolish”
“Absolutely! And you know the funniest thing, the decisions of the wise always seem foolish at first to the undiscerning, and it only becomes glaring after a while”
“Thank you bro, I’ve learnt so much from you today. But honestly, what I need now is money. You know, at my age I ought to have settled down, but without money, what can one do?”
“Don, you seem not to get the point; wisdom is far more important than money. One needs wisdom to build and sustain lasting wealth. Haven’t you seen many people who once had money and suddenly lost everything because of one foolish decision? Don’t crave for money, crave for wisdom!”
“Huh! Huh!! Huh!!! I get you now, wisdom is the principal thing, not money”
“That’s right, and wisdom is a tradeable currency, it can easily be converted to money. And don’t dare confuse wisdom with gimmicks, tricks, deception, or being cunny; they are not in the same class. The reward of wisdom is good, while those of the latter can be disastrous”
“But what can I do to get this kind of wisdom you’re talking about?”
“Simple, three things. First, James 1:5 says, ‘If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking (New Living Translation)’. The second way is ‘to read books and listen to messages of wise people’; and the third thing to do is ‘to keep company with wise people (He who walks with the wise will become wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed – Proverbs 13:20’”
“Yeh!!! Every form of foolishness in my life ends today; henceforth, I will start operating with wisdom in all I do, help me God”
“Have you forgotten so soon that today is ‘April Fool!’, and that’s what led to this conversation?”
“Please don’t go there, I know better now. Henceforth, I will devote April 1st to wisdom and discovery of new knowledge. I wished I have gotten this knowledge before now, it would have saved me from terrible mistakes I made in the past”
“Yes, that reminds me. Your brother told me you recently lost some money during a betting competition. How did it happen?”
“I don’t want to remember that again; it’s one of the foolish decisions I made in the past, and it’s as a result of the company I was keeping. That thing can be very addictive”
“At least, you now know what to do to build lasting wealth. And if I may give you one last advice: the best form of investment you can ever be involved in is real estate, the wise build their wealth through it. You know, real estate provides the highest returns, the greatest values and the least risk. Go and ponder about these things”
