We heartily welcome you to the month of December 2019, the much-awaited period of the year. At the commencement of every year, the wish, hope and aspiration of everyone is to see the end (December), and we all earnestly plan towards this period. This is the period where almost all the companies close their books (end-of-year account) and also organize their end of year party. We also witness communities and streets carnivals, Christmas parties where children hope to receive gifts from Santa Claus (whom we popularly call ‘Father Christmas’ in this clime), Christmas carols, amongst several other events. Indeed, there’s no month of the year that can be likened to December – the colour, the glamour, the gifts to be given and received. This is why, I believe, one popular musician in the Western part of Nigeria once sang that in all the celebrations and events in the world, that of Christmas is the most unique, none can be compared to it.
Before going any further, we want to seize this opportunity to sincerely appreciate you for your support, patronage and for always creating time to read our monthly articles, as well as your beautiful comments. As a matter of fact, many of our friends and readers have approached us to publish our monthly articles into a book so that it can be in their library for ease of reference, we are pleased to inform you that we’re already looking into this. We thank you all once again, and we promise to always raise the bar in all we do.
Towards the end of the year like this, it has become the practice of this writer to read some books as a way of preparing for the coming year. Recently, I started with the book titled “The Richest Man in Babylon first written in 1926 by George S. Clason”. It’s a popular classic book which is centred on thrift, financial planning and personal wealth; and is also very interesting to read as it’s written in story form and in the language of the Bible, such as: ‘Go thou forth and practice these truths that thou mayest prosper and grow wealthy, as is thy right’. Interestingly, I’ve read the book a number of times, but I get new inspirations and enlightenment each time I read again. It’s a book I will gladly recommend to anyone who desires to come out of debt and also achieve financial freedom. Another good thing is that it’s a little book which can be read in a single sitting (You can download and read the copy of the book here).
One of the interesting topics in the book is ‘Seven Cures For A Lean Purse’, and these seven cures for a lean purse are as follows: (i) Start thy purse to fattening (ii) Control thy expenditures (iii) Make thy gold multiply (iv) Guard thy treasures from loss (v) Make of thy dwelling a profitable investment (Own thy own home) (vi) Insure a future income, and (vii) Increase thy ability to earn.
It’s obvious that the title of this article was derived from the fifth cure for a lean purse, which simply says: ‘Own Thy Own Home’. Please, hear the words of Arkad (who was the richest man in Babylon as at then) as succinctly captured in the book:
“All too many of our men of Babylon do raise their families in unseemly quarters. They do pay to exacting landlords liberal rentals for rooms where their wives have not a spot to raise the blooms that gladden a woman’s heart and their children have no place to play their games except in the unclean alleys.
“No man’s family can fully enjoy life unless they do have a plot of ground wherein children can play in the clean earth and where the wife may raise not only blossoms but good rich herbs to feed her family.
“To a man’s heart it brings gladness to eat the figs from his own trees and the grapes of his own vines. To own his own domicile and to have it a place he is proud to care for, putteth confidence in his heart and greater effort behind all his endeavors. Therefore, do I recommend that every man own the roof that sheltereth him and his.
“Nor is it beyond the ability of any well-intentioned man to own his home. Hath not our great king so widely extended the walls of Babylon that within them much land is now unused and may be purchased at sums most reasonable?
“Also, I say to you, my students, that the money lenders gladly consider the desires of men who seek homes and land for their families. Readily may thou borrow to pay the brickmaker and the builder for such commendable purposes, if thou can show a reasonable portion of the necessary sum which thou thyself hath provided for the purpose.
“Then when the house be built, thou canst pay the money lender with the same regularity as thou didst pay the landlord. Because each payment will reduce thy indebtedness to the money lender, a few years will satisfy his loan.
“Then will thy heart be glad because thou wilt own in thy own right a valuable property and thy only cost will be the king’s taxes.
“Also wilt thy good wife go more often to the river to wash thy robes, that each time returning she may bring a goatskin of water to pour upon the growing things.
“Thus come many blessings to the man who owneth his own house. And greatly will it reduce his cost of living, making available more of his earnings for pleasures and the gratification of his desires. This, then, is the fifth cure for a lean purse: Own thy own home”.
What more can I say? You have heard it all from one of the wisest men that ever lived. There is indeed a kind of joy, satisfaction, freedom and fulfillment that comes with owning your own home. Whenever we give this kind of advice, people always view us as marketers or sales people, but indeed, owning your own home and others for investment is in your own best interest, as Zenith Bank will always say. As a matter of fact, the best people to associate yourself with are people like us – Real Estate Professionals, we guide and help you to prosper, unlike most other experts, who you must consult only when things are going bad – Your Doctor, when you’re feeling sick; Your Lawyer when you have to settle a score with someone, Your Mechanic when your vehicle develops a problem; however, you contact people like us on your path to prosperity, indeed, investing in land or houses are evidence of prosperity.
We know many people are desirous of owning their own homes, and the money to purchase is not the issue, but who to really trust with this very important decision. We agree, this is a legitimate concern and this was the same concern the man in the video below had before he bought the beautiful property from us (please watch the video):
We know that fear and doubt are the two major hindrances to prosperity, but we assure you that when it comes to all your real estate needs, Bluehedge Realtors is your one-stop shop – we’ve got you covered and with us, you can go to sleep.
Start making plans and aim to acquire at least one property in the year 2020, yes, it is very possible – whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve (Napoleon Hill). Even budget should never be a constraint, as there are land, houses and apartments for various budget. We look forward to hear from you in this regard.
Finally, it’s been said that the end of a thing is better than its beginning (Ecclesiastes 7:8), and therefore it is our prayer that this month of December 2019 shall be our best month ever.
